Grip Size Guide: How to Measure Your Hand
Wrong grip size causes real problems — here’s how to get it right.
Wrong grip size causes real problems — here’s how to get it right.
A grip that’s too small forces over-gripping and strains your wrist; too large limits wrist snap and feel. Getting this right matters more than most players realize.
With your palm open, measure from the middle crease of your palm to the tip of your ring finger, in inches. That number is roughly your ideal grip circumference.
| Hand Measurement | Typical Grip Size |
|---|---|
| Under 4 inches | Smaller grip (around 4.0-4.125in) |
| 4 – 4.5 inches | Standard grip (around 4.25in) |
| Over 4.5 inches | Larger grip (4.375in and up) |
Go smaller and build up with an overgrip rather than sizing up and trying to shave down — it’s much easier to add material than remove it. This is also exactly what an overgrip is for even on a correctly-sized paddle: fine-tuning feel and adding tackiness.
The Franklin ALW series in our shop runs the smallest stock grip in our catalog at 3.9in, genuinely worth checking out if you have smaller hands and have struggled with standard 4.25in grips feeling bulky.
